Two charged with murder of Mid-Missouri woman
Two people face murder charges following a motel shooting in the central Missouri town of St. Robert.
29-year-old Charles Howard and 43-year-old Libby Charles both are charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and first-degree assault related to Monday’s shooting death of 33-year-old Laila Carpenter.
Court documents show Howard told police he had been involved in an ongoing dispute with Carpenter and a man who was with her at the motel. Those documents say Howard, Charles and two others went to the motel with a gun and the intention of settling the dispute.
A not guilty plea was entered Thursday for Howard and Charles. Both are being held in the Pulaski County jail. Online court records listed no attorneys for them.
