Car break-ins are on the rise in Columbia and Boone County
In just the past two days, there have been22 reports of cars being broken into in Columbia and Boone County.
Officials say the reason for this is due to the time of year. Numbers always spike during the warmer months, when kids aren’t in school and people are out later at night.
“We are having a more-than-normal amount of cars getting broken into,” said Sgt. Joe Bernhard with the Columbia Police Department.
Authorities suggest residents make sure valuables are not left in cars andthat doors are always locked.
They say it is very hard for officers to pinpointsuspects for these crimes because it usually happens at night or when no one is around.
