Jefferson City man arrested for stealing a car, again

A Jefferson City man was arrested Saturday for allegedly stealing a vehicle, again.

Around 7 p.m. an automated license plate reader alerted aBoone County Sheriff’s deputy to a stolen vehicle on I-70 near the Lake of the Woods exit.

The driver of the car, 32-year-old Chet Jones, was arrested for first-degree tampering and driving a car with a suspended license.

Deputies also said Jones is a parole absconder and was taken into custody for a no bond parole violation warrant. According to online records, the warrant is for a first-degree burglary and forgery warrant.

Just two weeks ago, Jones was arrested by deputies for driving another stolen car and possessing marijuana.

While officials were processing him in jail Saturday night, they found a small amount of meth on Jones and he was subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility.

Jones was scheduled to appear in a Boone County courtroom on July 25 for arraignment on the charges stemming from his June arrest.

Jones remains in the Boone County Jail as of Sunday morning.
