Police increase security for Summerfest

With about 3,000 people packing the streets of downtown for Ninth Street Summerfest, the Blue Note and Columbia police increased their security force to ensure everyone’s safety.

But security officials with the Blue Note saidthey are not expecting any violent crimes to happen at the event, even after all the recent shootings.

They said their top priorities are heat exhaustion, intoxication, and people sneaking in alcohol or drugs.

But they saidif there are any incidents, they are likely to be caused by the younger crowd.

The Blue Note has 13 security staff members as well as four policemen patrolling the area just in case any incidents do occur.
