Police: Door-to-door salespeople usually scammers

Local law enforcement has received several complaints of door-to-door salespeople from Columbia residents over the last several weeks.

Residents say they are concerned the salespeople have more dangerous motives than just making sales; they believe they are casing homes, or worse, trying to abduct children.

Boone County Sheriff’s Detective Tom O’Sullivan says that most of these salespeople are in fact scammers whothey will try to getpeople to buy something for a ridiculous amount of money without giving quality services they promised in return.

But he says while they usually aren’t legitimate, there isn’t any proof yet that they are dangerous.

O’Sullivan says that most modernbusinesses do not go door to door in today’s day and age, and he would advise people to never do business with those solicitors.
