Columbia police release holiday DWI data

Columbia police arrested six drivers over the Independence Day holiday weekend at two separate DWI checkpoints.

The checkpoints happened on Clark Lane on Friday, July 5 starting at 10 p.m. Officers stopped 176 vehicles and arrested two people for driving while intoxicated. The checkpoint ended at midnight.

The next night, officers set up along Providence Road from 12:25 a.m. to 3 a.m. They stopped 87 vehicles and arrested four for driving while intoxicated.

Over the course of the weekend, officers made two other DWI arrests outside of the designated checkpoints.

Police said in a news release Monday they also made various arrests and citations for other traffic violations, including two misdemeanor drug cases.
