Motorcycle crash kills Columbia man

Columbia police are investigating an early Sunday morning motorcycle crash that killed a local man.

Police say Brandon E. Bainter, 29, of Columbia was driving westbound on Broadway near Westwood Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday. According to CPD, Bainter lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to leave the roadway and hit a utility pole.

Bainter was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Columbia police say Bainter was not wearing a helmet and they do believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation and alcohol and drug results are pending.
