Coty Galbreath arrested after north Columbia shooting

Police have made one arrest after a shooting in north Columbia Wednesday afternoon that injured at least one person.

Coty Thomas Galbreath, 23, was arrested for armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and felon in possession of a weapon.

Police also tell us Galbreath was wounded during the shooting. He was taken to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury and has been released. Galbreath is now in the Boone County jail.

Around 12:35 p.m., police were called to the area of Garth Avenue and Texas Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Police say subjects in two vehicles were firing shots at each other.

Officers found 27 shell casings at the scene and two homes were damaged by bullets.

At the time of the shooting, dispatchers said three men in a black SUV or van began firing. The subjects were described as black males wearing bandanas over their faces. The men were reportedly using a rifle and two pistols in the shooting.

One of the vehicles involved in the shooting was recovered near the roundabout at Garth Avenue and Blue Ridge Road. The black SUV was left abandoned with bullet holes at the intersection.

The second vehicle involved, a blue Chrysler, was found abandoned in the 1900 block of Jackson Street. It also had been damaged by bullets.

Columbia police continue to investigate.
