Organizers expect 50,000 to attend Salute to America
Jefferson City’s Salute To America, a two-day Independence Day celebration, kicks off Wednesday and that means large crowds will be flooding into the Capitol City.
Organizers expect around 50,000 people to attend the events on July 3 and 4.
The Jefferson City Police Department has been working with the Salute To America planners for months to ensure that this event stays safe for everyone that participates.
There will be additional officers on duty during the festivities. They will be patrolling in vehicles, on bikes and on foot.
“We have a plan for the amount of personnel we have and they’ll be working,” said David Williams of the Jefferson City Police Department. “There is some traffic control being done.”
Police will be directing the crowds on foot, as well has the motorist traffic.
JCPD also said they will have a special unit just for Jefferson City’s north side, where many of the spectators will be to watch the fireworks on the Fourth of July.

If you are unable to make it to the event, ABC 17 News will carry a majority of the fireworks show, “Red, White & Boom,” on FOX 22 starting around 9:25 p.m. The fireworks display is expected to last 20 minutes.
