Jefferson City movie theater closes after decades

A Jefferson City movie staple has closed its doors, likely for the final time.

Truman 4 Theatres had a “For Sale” sign in front of it Sunday evening, when the last showing of the film “Epic” began.

Managers told ABC 17 News the cost to transition from showing movies on film to new digital projections was going to be too expensive.

The Truman 4 Theatres sits next to the Truman Hotel, which was sold earlier this month to the Puri Group.

Moviegoers have been enjoying films at the location for more than 40 years. The only movie theater left in the Capital City is now the Capital 8 just off Truman Boulevard.
