Columbia man arrested for burglary and assaulting officers

Columbia police arrested a man Wednesday for numerous charges, including burglary and assaulting police officers.

Officers responded to the 4800 block of Clark Lane just before 5 a.m. Wednesday to arrest 25-year-old Zachary P. Connor, a wanted person.

On June 14, officers say Connor assaulted a female victim by forcing his way into her home and choking and punching her, then slamming her head into a wall.

Connor reportedly told the victim he wanted her to die and chocked her until she was unconscious. Police say children were in the home at the time of the assault.

When the victim regained consciousness, she fled to another apartment to call police and Connor allegedly chased her down and kicked her repeatedly before he left the residence.

On Wednesday morning, police located Connor at a home on Clark Lane and asked him to come outside, but he refused to listen to officers.

As Connor exited the home, he ran at officers and was forced to the ground where he refused arrest. One officer tasered Connor to take him into custody.

Connor was arrested for first-degree burglary, second-degree domestic assault, endangering the welfare of a child, property damage, six counts of second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

His bond was set at $400,000. As of Thursday afternoon, Connor remained in the Boone County Jail.
