Brandon Chase found guilty of April 2012 murder in Jefferson City

A Cole County jury took three and a half hours deliberating in the Brandon Chase murder trial, finding him guilty on all three counts.

The jury found Chase guilty of murder, armed criminal action and robbery. He could face up to life in prison.

The charges stem from the April 2012 shooting death of Keith Mosely during a drug deal.

Chase took the stand in his own defense Wednesday, stating he wanted nothing to do with the situation last April.

The trial began Tuesday in Jefferson City.

The prosecution and defense were able to make their opening statements after jury selection wrapped up Tuesday. Both sides laid out all the details of what happened the night of the murder, but disagree who had what part.

Cole County prosecutor Mark Richardson says 34-year-old Keith Mosely drove from Columbia to Jefferson City to help sell marijuana.

Instead of selling the drugs, Chase devised a plan for him and two others to rob Mosely, according to the prosecution.

Richardson acknowledged Chase did not have a gun on him, but he says he should be found guilty because he was a part of the robbery that led to the death of Mosely.

Chase’s lawyer told the jury the prosecution’s story did not actually happen. The defense says Chase was informed by the two other men about the plan to rob Mosely, but claims Chase did not want to partake in it.

The prosecution was able to call to the stand several police officers that responded to the shooting. The officers described the scene and what they saw after the shooting death.

This is the second time Chase has stood trial, after a judge declared a mistrial because of a hung jury in March.
