Columbia murder suspect appears in court

The suspect in an April murder appeared in court Tuesday.

24-year-old James Robert Thompson is accused of killing 46-year-old Brian Daniels. Daniels was found shot to death at his home on Cimarron Drive in Columbia.

Thompson appeared during a preliminary hearing in a Boone County courtroom. The hearing was continued by both the prosecution and the defense, with a criminal setting set for Wednesday.

Police believe money was the motive for his murder. According to officials, Thompson was the sole beneficiary to Daniels’ estate.

Thompson is being held in the Boone County Jail on $2 million bond.
