Driver injured after tractor trailer overturns in Jefferson City

A tractor trailer crash briefly closed a section of Highway 54 in Jefferson City early Saturday morning.

Just before 6 a.m., the Jefferson City Police Department responded to an overturned tractor trailer on the eastbound Highway 54 ramp to northbound Highway 63.

Officers say the driver, Tracy Johnson, 53, of Independence, Mo. was traveling too fast on the curve when the tractor trailer overturned and slid off the road.

The driver was hauling about 40,000 lbs. of charcoal.

Officers shut down the ramp for about an hour to clean up the scene and tow the tractor trailer.

Johnson suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene. The tractor trailer was severely damaged.
