Cole County deputies search for burglary suspect
Deputies in Cole County are searching for one more suspect involved in a burglary.
Investigators say around 10:30 p.m. Monday, armed robbers forced their way into an apartment in the 5200 block of Collier Court.
One of the victims inside told deputies he opened the door after hearing knocking, and that’s when the suspects confronted those inside, forcing some to lay on the floor.
Deputies say one suspect was armed with a handgun, and another with a hammer. One victim was hit in the head with a gun.
The victim told ABC 17 News, “They had me in [the bathtub] and every time I would try to get out, he would just keep slamming my head back.”
The victim also said she suffers from a brain aneurism and has to have surgery in two weeks. Her grandmother told ABC 17 News she’s upset over how brutal the robbers were to her granddaughter.
“When they shoved my little granddaughter, they didn’t realize or didn’t know how sick she is,” she said. “That she can’t stand that kind of pressure, especially on her little head.”
Investigators say the suspects’ got away with cash and some electronics.
Deputies caught up to the suspects car and tried to make a stop but a chase ensued.
The suspects crashed on Route C and Hemstreet and then fled on foot. Two of the suspects were caught, but deputies are still looking for the third and say they do have several leads they’re working on.
“We’ve got a few leads that we’re following upon,” said Cole County Sheriff’s Department Capt. John Wheeler. “We’ve got some law enforcement officers out there and they’re following up down there now.”
