Ashland officials meet to discuss city leadership

Ashland’s Board of Aldermen met Tuesday evening to discuss several open positions within the city government.

Just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, the board voted to put the police chief on paid administrative leave.

Last month, the board voted not to renew the contracts for the police chief, city administrator and city attorney.

The aldermen also have to find two more board members after two aldermen quit and the mayor informed them he will resign in the near future.

Earlier this year, the integrity of the police chief was questioned after evidence was handled improperly. On Tuesday evening, the board tabled discussion on a possible investigation into that incident.

In May, the city also ran into trouble after the state’s Department of Natural Resources cited Ashland for illegally dumping items into a creek.
