Mid-Missouri Ameren crews helping to restore power in St. Louis

About 22,000 Ameren customers are still without power Monday evening, three days after storms and tornadoes struck the St. Louis area.

Ameren Meramec Valley Division Director Ken Schmidt told ABC 17 News 76 utility workers from Columbia, Jefferson City, Boonville, Mexico and the Lake of the Ozarks are helping crews restore power in St. Louis.

Those workers are focusing on replacing police in northern St. Louis County. The crews left early Saturday and are expected to return home Tuesday.

Several tornadoes were reported in the metro St. Louis area Friday night, damaging hundreds of homes. No one was killed.

Ameren says it has more than 2,850 workers involved in the effort to restore power, including contract linemen brought in from five other states.
