Man charged after south Columbia shooting and police chase

Prosecutors have charged a man after a shooting and police chase Sunday evening.

Boone County prosecutors charged Alfonso Rodriguez, 34, with armed criminal action, first-degree domestic assault and resisting arrest on Tuesday.

Police told ABC 17 News Rodriguez shot Gisela Angel-Lopez, 20, in the neck inthe 5600 block of South Route K just before 6 p.m Sunday.

She was taken to University Hospital for life-threatening injuries. As of Tuesday evening, she has been upgraded to serious condition from critical condition Monday night.

Rodriguezwas taken into custody during a police chase on eastbound Interstate 70 after police used a spike stripto deflate his tires, just west of the Highway 63 connector.

Police say Rodriguez was the boyfriend of Angel-Lopez.

The Criminal Investigation Division was given the case and is looking into it.
