One injured after shooting in Cole County

A gunman is on the run in Cole County, after a man was shot in the arm just before midnight. It happened in the 1600 block of Starlite Drive just outside of Jefferson City.

“Deputies were dispatched and they found that one person had been the victim of a single gunshot wound,” said Cole County Sheriff Greg White.

The man was shot in the arm and the bullet pierced through his bones, finally hitting his torso. While he’s going to be alright, investigators said he’s not cooperating.

“Sometimes it’s a snitching issue, and I think more often than not if someone was involved in criminal behavior they are reluctant to incriminate themselves,” said White.

It is not clear where the victim lived, but deputies found a lot of drugs in this house.

“We found a little over a pound of marijuana, we found some synthetic marijuana, a bag with some alleged powder cocaine in it, some pharmaceuticals and some steroids,” said White.

Investigators also found two guns, one that was stolen. They also found enough evidence to show someone was dealing drugs.

“Talking over a pound so certainly it was for distribution,” said White.

White said deputies monitor the part of the county a lot in the summer. Deputies will stay in the area unless they are dispatched somewhere else.

As of Wednesday night, the victim was at University Hospital.

While the gunman is still on the run, investigators said this was a targeted crime, so the public should not worry.
