Ryan Koebel murder trial delayed

The murder trial of a Holts Summit teen accused of killing his grandmother has been delayed.

Ryan Koebel was due in court on Wednesday, but ABC 17 News confirmed Monday the trial start has been pushed back.

Callaway County prosecutor Chris Wilson told ABC 17 News he and Koebel’s defense attorney were in court Monday. The defense attorney requested a continuance and Wilson did not object. The judge then postponed the trial.

Koebel is accused of stabbing and shooting Karen Coates in January 2012. Officials also believe he fired at state troopers on Highway 54 shortly after the murder.

He is charged with first-degree murder, four counts of armed criminal action and three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.
