Marvin Jones pleads guilty to 1999 rape in University of Missouri dormitory

The man accused of a rape at a University of Missouri dormitory pleaded guilty in court Monday.

47-year-old Marvin Jones pleaded guilty to charges of forcible sodomy and forcible rape for a 1999 rape.

On October 16, 1999, the University of Missouri Police Department investigated a rape at the Gillett Residence Hall on campus.

In November of last year, police said they had received a “significant lead” in the case from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crime lab and arrested Jones.

Jones was required by law to provide a genetic sample after a 2010 sexual misconduct conviction.

In court Monday, the prosecution and defense recommended sentences to the judge. Prosecutor Dan Knight is requesting a life sentence for all three counts.

That means Jones could be sentenced to up to 60 years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 8.

Jones is currently in the Boone County Jail.
