Columbia police investigating two shootings Sunday night

Columbia police are investigating two separate reports of shots fired Sunday night.

Just before 8 p.m., officers were called to the 400 block of Oak Street for a reference of shots fired. Officers found four shell casings in the area.

At the scene, officers said it was likely in an attempt to get attention.

Police believe two vehicles were involved in the gunfire, but the only descriptions available are a silver car and a white minivan. Officers said the minivan had missing rims and the occupants were shooting rounds out the window.

No one was injured but police did get several calls from neighbors about the gunfire.

Residents said two shootings – one on April 29 and the Sunday shooting – have them feeling unsafe.

The shooting on April 29 involved a drive-by shooter, who targeted a specific apartment on the 500 block of Oak Street.

Residents told ABC 17 News they do not feel safe and they believe when school gets out, crime will only get worse. One resident said schoolchildren are going to become innocent victims if police don’t get crime under control.

Around 9 p.m. Sunday, police also responded to the 5100 block of Clark Lane for a large disturbance with possible shots fired.

According to officers, up to 15 Hispanic and/or black males were involved in the fight. When police arrived, everyone had already left the scene.

Police did not find any shell casings at that location.

No one was injured and the investigation is still ongoing. Officers do not know if the shootings are related to each other.

ABC 17 News left multiple messages with Columbia police on Monday, but all calls went unanswered.
