HIV patient facing assault charges

University of Missouri police say a HIV patient is facing assault charges for an outburst in his room.

According to police, the unnamed patient’s IV fell out and he was flicking HIV-infected blood at staff. They refused to help the patient until he stopped the act, but he refused.

Police say that’s when the man lost control and started tearing up the room.

He threw a table breaking items in the room including a heart rate monitor.

According to police, the patient faces third degree assault, property damage, and risking infection of another with HIV.

Police are waiting for a warrant.

The patient is still at University Hospital.
