Flooding impacts mid-Missouri

Thursday afternoon nearly20roads were closed in Boone County because of flooding and nearly 300 state roads were closed across the state.

All the rain this week has left streams and rivers swollen and some roads dangerous.

Thursday morning road crews blocked off the roads they thought would flood.

Theroadswith the most floodingwereRoute E and Wilcox Road.

Warning signs alerted drivers to roads being unsafe to drive down and cautioning them to the dangers ahead.

“You don’t know if it’s2inches deep or2feet deep. You can’t tell,” says Mike Glasscock, Boone County Public Works.

“We encourage motorists to not drive through any amount of water. It is generally just the fact that the water is on the roadway. Water itself is verypowerful,especially moving waterorflowing water,” saw Mike Belt, MoDOT.

MoDOT and Boone County Public Works monitor the streets they know have the worst flooding and make sure signs stay up to warn drivers.
