American Airlines flights resumed after computer system failure is fixed

American Airlines flights resumed Tuesday around the country and at Columbia Regional Airport following a system-wide outage at DFW airport in Dallas.

The remaining Tuesday flights out of Columbia were cancelled.

Airport officials told ABC 17 News that flight schedules would resume at normal times on Wednesday.

But those flights are already full.

Stranded passengers who are still trying to fly out of Missouri Tuesday or Wednesday will be forced to re-book and fly out of St. Louis or Kansas CIty.

Some passengers in Columbia said they would extend their stay for a night or said they planned to rent a car and drive to their destination.

“I am feeling very disappointed and helpless,” American Airlines passenger Lokendra Singh told ABC 17 News. “I’m not even feeling frustrated. I’m feeling helpless because I don’t know what to do.”

American Airlines apologized for the problem and said in a statement that those who choose not to travel Tuesday can receive a refund or change their reservation for no charge.
