Two men arrested for Columbia murder

Police have made two arrests in a Columbia murder last week.

According to the Boone County jail, James Thompson is currently in their custody. Thompson is under arrest for allegedly killing Brian Daniels.

Thompson was picked up at the corner of Grindstone Parkway and Churchill Drive on Saturday around 4:45 p.m.

Thompson was being held on a $2 million cash-only bond. He was arrested for first-degree murder.

A second man, Christopher James Hurt, 24, was also arrested Saturday at his Apple Tree Court apartment. According to a news release, Hurt’s apartment was search in connection to the investigation.

Hurt was being held on $9,000 bond for felony cocaine possession and felony hindering prosecution.

The homicide investigation first began as a death investigation on Wednesday night in southern Columbia.

According to law enforcement, police were originally called to a home after getting reports of a possible robbery involving injuries.

Officers responded to 2416 Cimarron Drive around 7 p.m. near the Hinkson Creek and the A.L. Gustin Golf Course.

Upon arriving, officers found the body 46-year-old Brian A. Daniels.

At that time, Sgt. Joe Bernhard of the Columbia Police Department said that the Criminal Investigations Division was assisting in the investigation.

On Wednesday, investigators said they did not believe the killing was a random act.

Officers say they originally responded to the home as a robbery call. Police did say a door to the house appears to have been kicked in.

A cause of death has not been released and the medical examiner conducted an autopsy Thursday.
