Blues trade for Boom Boom

The St. Louis Blues keep adding pieces to their back line for a playoff push.

Monday evening, St. Louis General Manager Doug Armstrong traded a conditional first round pick and two prospects to the Calgary Flames in exchange for veteran defenseman Jay Bouwmeester.

Heading Calgary’s way is a 2013 first-round pick, defenseman Mark Cundari and the rights to goaltender Reto Barra.

Bouwmeester broke into the league as a 19-year old with the Florida Panthers in 2002. He has spent the last three-plus seasons playing for the Flames.

In his career he has 71 goals and 300 points. In eight of his nine full seasons in the league, Bouwmeester has played in all 82 games of the NHL season.

Bouwmeester, who has an annual cap hit of $6.68 million through to the end of next season, has six goals and nine assists in 33 games in 2013.

On Saturday, St. Louis traded with the Buffalo Sabres for defenseman Jordan Leopold.

The NHL trade deadline is 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
