Teen back in trouble after being found not guilty of 2012 Columbia shooting
A Columbia teen acquitted of a shooting two weeks ago is once again behind bars.
James Miller, 17, was found not guilty of a 2012 shooting into the Chuck-E-Cheeses in Columbia two weeks ago. He was arrested over the weekend in Kansas City for allegedly robbing a hair salon and a title loan business. Miller was arrested along with his brother Jamin, Jamon Roberts-Overstreet, and Cecil Robinson.
According to court documents ABC 17 News got from Jackson County, Miller and the other three were in Kansas City robbing a hair salon for $100.
The group allegedly tried to rob a bank, but they were unsuccessful because employees wouldn’t let them in because they were wearing dark clothing and had masks on at the time. So they went over to the loan business and robbed it and got away with nearly $300.
Once police located them, they were taken on a 30-mile high speed chase that ended near Peculiar when they crashed. They told the cops as they were being arrested, they were lucky they crashed because they would have gotten away.
ABC 17 News found out Roberts-Overstreet is also being investigated for the Midwest Petroleum convenience store robbery in Columbia last week.
It was one of three convenience store robberies in a 12-hour span. Police wouldn’t give any details and said they’re looking into all possible leads right now. They aren’t saying yet that he’s tied to any others in the area.
According to court documents, Jamon Roberts-Overstreet walked into the Midwest Petroleum convenience store and pointed guns at the clerk and a customer demanding money.
It states Roberts-Overstreet and another suspect were wearing masks at the time…. But the clerk said she was able to identify Roberts-Overstreet because there were large holes in the mask. He and the other suspects were able to get away with the money and took off.
Columbia police weren’t able to tell me if any of these suspects were people of interest in the convenience store robberies. They said they didn’t have any update on other possible suspects.
