Couple reunited with life-saving doctor

Kay and Jack Bonzelaar nearly died last July following a motorcycle accident at the Lake of the Ozarks. Now, eight months after the experience, they were reunited with the doctors who saved their lives.

The Bonzelaars were driving to a campground in Osage Beach when their bike hit some gravel. They were thrown into a ditch, both seriously injured. They were so severely hurt, they had to be airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia.

Kay was in the worst shape. All of her ribs were broken. Her diaphragm was ruptured, causing her abdominal organs to move up into her chest cavity. She had fractured her pelvis, her right arm in multiple places. Her spleen exploded, her liver cut and multiple arteries in her left leg were severed.

Within seconds, she could not breathe and her heart stopped beating. Kay had only a one percent chance of living, but a doctor at University Hospital was able to save her life.

After multiple surgeries, Kay and Jack are both healthy, even going on vacations again.

While holding hands with her doctor today, Kay said she is thankful and knows she was kept here for a reason.
