Officials Name Homicide Suspect

A warrant was issued for Rudy Perez Jr., 33, of Sedalia, for first-degree murder with a cash-only bond of one million dollars.***UPDATE MONDAY 11:58 A.M.***The victim was identified as Robert Hill, 78, of Warsaw. Officials with Columbia police confirmed Hill was assaulted at the hospital around 6:30 p.m. Friday and died around 10:30 later that night. There were no injuries in the attack.The investigation is now being handled by the criminal investigations unit with the Columbia Police Department and the criminal division of the Office of Inspector General.***UPDATE 5:45 P.M.***The death investigation has been turned over to the Columbia police department, according to Truman VA public information officer Stephen Gaither. The Inspector General’s criminal division has been conducting the investigation until Saturday evening.***ORIGINAL STORY***A patient at the Truman VA Hospital in Columbia has died after being assaulted by another patient Friday night.Stephen Gaither, hospital public relations officer, told ABC 17 News the patient died from injuries sustained in the fight.No other information could be released Saturday because of an ongoing investigation and because of federal privacy laws.The Inspector General’s criminal division is conducting the investigation.Stay with ABC 17 News and abc17news.com for updates as they become available.
