Deadly Fire Under Investigation

***UPDATE MONDAY 12:13 P.M.***The victim was identified as William Downs, 64, of Moberly. Officials are conducting an autopsy Monday afternoon.***UPDATE SATURDAY 7:30 P.M.*** Neighbors told ABC 17 News that the 64-year-old man had trouble getting around. A reason they believe may have led to him being unable to get out of the fire in time. One neighbor, Shelly Coureton, said the man lived on the second floor and that’s where another neighbor saw flames shooting out of Friday night.A motorized wheelchair was left in the backyard Saturday. ***ORIGINAL STORY*** The State Fire Marshal is investigating a fatal fire in Moberly Saturday. Moberly police say officers and firefighters responded to a house fire in the 700 block of W. Rollins St. around 10:39 p.m. Friday. Inside the home, they found a 64-year-old man, who had died.The name of the man is not being released until next of kin has been notified.The fire and the death are being investigated by the Fire Marshal and the Randolph County Coroner.
