Claire McCaskill throws support behind same-sex marriage
Two days ahead of the start of United State Supreme Court arguments on two explosive same-sex marriage cases, Missouri’s senior senator has thrown her support behind the issue.
Claire McCaskill posted a statement on her Tumblr social media site Sunday evening about her decision to support the so-called “marriage equality” movement.
McCaskill’s post said, in part, “Good people disagree with me. On the other hand, my children have a hard time understanding why this is even controversial. I think history will agree with my children.”
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday on California’ Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage. Then on Wednesday, the court will hear arguments on a 1996 law defining marriage as between one man and one woman – the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Neither case will be ruled on until June.
