Burglar Held at Gunpoint

A Holts Summit man got caught in the act early Sunday morning when the homeowner he was trying to burglarize turned a gun on him and forced him outside until deputies arrived.Nelson Barnes is accused of breaking into a house on Missouri O outside of Fulton just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Deputies said in a new release he forced open two doors after stealing a purse from a car outside the home.But the homeowner was waiting inside and announced he had a gun. Barnes then allegedly retreated back outside and started sifting through other cars on the property. Deputies said he told them he too was looking for a gun. He did not know anyone inside.Barnes was picked up for the attempted burglary, but also had a failure to appear warrant for receiving stolen property. He was being held in the Callaway County Jail on $90,000 bond Sunday.
