3/17: Winter Weather Returns
***UPDATE 7:30 AM SUNDAY ***Rain continues to fall in Mid-Missouri with some areas of sleet/ snow along and north of I-70. As we go through the morning, pockets of sleet and snow will continue to mix in with the rain near I-70 changing to all rain this afternoon. Only minor snow accumulation on grassy surfaces of less than an inch expected. Temperatures will hover near or just above the freezing mark, climbing to the upper 30s this afternoon. Therefore, problems on roads due to wintry precipitation look unlikely. ***ORIGINAL STORY***Moisture will increase from the west Saturday night and rain showers will become more widespread overnight. As the air cools, rain will change to snow after midnight, mainly in areas along and north of Highway 50 where mainly snow is expected Sunday morning. Precipitation farther south will mostly be rain although snow could mix in at times. Temperatures will hover close to the freezing mark early Sunday morning then climb to the mid-to-upper 30s Sunday afternoon when snow will change back to rain showers and end Sunday night.Snow accumulation of 1-3 inches mainly on grassy surfaces is possible early Sunday north of HWY 50. There could be some slushy snow on roads in the early morning hours Sunday before temperatures warm but overall, travel impacts will be minimal. Rainfall amounts of a half inch to an inch and a half are expected with the highest rainfall amounts near I-44.
