$1M Headed to Food Bank

(AP) – A St. Louis-based philanthropic organization has awarded $1 million grants each to four food banks in the state.The Missouri Foundation for Health announced recently that it gave the grants to the Southeast Missouri Food Bank in Cape Girardeau, the St. Louis Area Food Bank, the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri in Columbia, and the Ozarks Food Harvest in Springfield.Officials with the Southeast Missouri Food Bank said Friday its grant will be used to renovate a distribution facility in Sikeston, including adding a new roof, refrigeration and freezer units and new loading docks.The Southeast Missourian reports the grants come at a time when food banks are seeing an increase in demand.
