Woman Arrested for Baby Death
Cooper County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a woman in connection to the death of a 2-mont-old baby in May.Treschell R. Kemp, 24, of Columbia was arrested Thursday morning following an investigation into the baby’s death.According to the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were dispatched to a Boonville home on May 14th for a report of an infant who was no longer breathing. The baby was later pronounced dead. Authorities say an autopsy showed that the baby’s death was not accidental.Court documents allege that Kemp shoved a pacifier into the baby’s mouth, suffocating the infant. Officials also confirmed that Kemp is not related to the child.Kemp is charged with second degree murder, first degree domestic assault, and child abuse. She is currently being held in Cooper County on a $250,000 bond.According to court records, an arraignment was held Thursday morning. Kemp entered a not guilty plea. The next court date is scheduled for November 20th.
