Two Arrested After Car Chase

***UPDATE WEDNESDAY 4:50 P.M.***Joshua Hood has been charged with resisting arrest and tampering with a motor vehicle. He’s also charged with operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, stealing motor fuel and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. Hood’s bond has been set at $18,000 cash-only. He remains in the Macon County Jail at this time.Ashley Barnes has not been charged at this time.***UPDATE WEDNESDAY 1:50 P.M.***The Macon County Sheriff’s Department identified the two suspects as 23-year-old Joshua Hood of Dexter and 22-year-old Ashley Barnes of Kirksville.Authorities say Hood and Barnes drove off in a stolen truck and without paying $100 in gasoline. The Sheriff’s department says the truck hit a curb near the Casey’s in Macon, which blew the right front tire out. The suspects made the Highway 63 and Highway 22 junction, where they hit spike strips.A source told ABC 17 News that Hood fought with a trooper after being stopped, resulting in a broken hand for the trooper.Charges have not been filed yet, but the Macon County Prosecutor is expected to file them Wednesday afternoon. Hood is expected to be charged with several felonies, including second degree assault.***ORIGINAL STORY***Two people are in custody Tuesday night after taking police on a high-speed chase through several Mid-Missouri counties.The chase started in La Plata in Macon County around 6 p.m. The suspects took off after allegedly refusing to pay for gas. They then headed south on Highway 63.Deputies from Macon and Randolph Sheriff’s Departments, Moberly police, and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers assisted in chasing the subjects, who were driving a stolen vehicle.The chase ended just north of Highway 124 in Boone County after law enforcement deployed spike strips.
