Shoplifting Gone Wrong

A Columbia man was arrested Saturday for trying to steal alcohol from Walmart, attacking an employee and leading police on a chase across town.Kelvin Joe was arrested and booked into the Boone County jail after police say he led them on a chase through a busy shopping center.Police told ABC 17 News that Joe was spotted trying to steal several bottles of Jack Daniels from the Walmart Supercenter on Conley Road. When he was approached by an employee, he allegedly shoved the employee and took off in his car. Officers followed him to Whitegate Drive where he dumped the car and took off running.”One [cop] pulled him onto the street, one of them pulled up onto the grass, they ran up, grabbed the guy and literally somersalted out with him onto the grass,” one neighbor told an ABC 17 News crew at the scene.Since his arrest, ABC 17 News has learned Joe has an extensive past record of petty thefts and at least one Driving While Intoxicated charge.Joe now faces charges of second degree robbery.
