Missouri Department of Transportation crews have completed construction on the $2 million Route K project in Boone County.Crews resurfaced the road and added shoulders and bicycle lanes to a seven-mile stretch of the road. The project is expected to increase safety and to boost tourism in the area.In 2009, there were three injury accidents along Route K. In 2010, the number of accidents rose to seven and in 2011, there were 12 accidents.”Now that this project is finished, Route K will be safer for those who travel by vehicle and by bicycle,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Mike Schupp in a statement. “The new four-foot shoulders and bicycle lanes that have been constructed will help both bikes and motorized vehicles better share the road.”The new bike lanes run from Route 163 to the Katy Trail in McBaine.
