MU Health Violates Regulations

University of Missouri Health Care is now under investigation for possible deficiencies. On Monday, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services sent the health system a letter detailing violations reported at the end of September. The letter alleges that the hospital may have violated federal regulations having to do with pharmacy services, but it does not specify what the hospital did wrong. The CMS received a report of the mishaps on September 27th during a complaint review. The letter says the deficiencies are of a serious nature, but MU Health officials could not describe what they were. The violation has to deal with pharmacy services either meeting patient needs, being under supervision, or having procedures in place to minimize drug mistakes. The CMS now wants to complete their own review and find out if the hospital is in compliance with regulations. The letter also asks the health care system to create a plan to fix the possible issues. At this point, the investigation will not affect the hospital’s accreditation, Medicare payments, or its current status.
