Man Leads Cops on Chase

At around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, a deputy with the Callaway County Sheriffs Department tried to stop a black Mercury Cougar for a traffic violation. The car was on Old Highway 54 south of New Bloomfield when the driver, Colby Stuart, failed to stop and led the deputy on a chase.Stuart drove through various County Roads until jumping out of the moving car on County Road 371. Stuart was chased into the woods but eluded arrest. Police determined that when Stuart jumped out of the moving car he left it in drive and a passenger was sleeping in the vehicle and it rolled approximately a quarter of a mile before crashing into a ditch. Stuart turned himself into the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department at around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Stuart was arrested on suspicion of failure to dim light, exceeding the posted speed limit, carless and imprudent driving, and resisting arrest. Stuart was taken to the Callaway County Jail where he posted $6,000 bond.
