Inmate Charged with Molestation

A Latham man behind bars for gun violations is now accused of molesting a child.Dean Smith, 29, was sent to the Moberly Correctional Center for unlawful possession of a firearm. He now faces charges for molesting a 9-year-old girl for more than a year.The Moniteau County prosecutor Shayne Healea prosecutor tells ABC 17 News there is a potential of three more charges. He explains the investigation is on-going and expects to get more evidence. He also says Smith may not be the only one at fault.ABC 17 News previously reported in June 2011, Dean Smith shot himself at the home in Latham. According to court documents, between the time of that incident and when he was sentenced to prison, Dean Smith inappropriately touched the 9-year-old girl several times. The documents state it happened two separate times and also forced the girl to touch him.Documents say it all happened in a room she shared with her teenage sister. Allegedly a similar incident happened to her too. Smith allegedly got permission from the mother and paid to touch the girl. But there have not been any charges filed with that incident as of right now.Smith does not have a court date set. The prosecutor tells us it is expected to happen sometime next month.The prosecutor says if additional charges are filed it would be after the new year.
