Garage Damaged By Fire

***UPDATE 6:10 PThe Fulton fire chief tells ABC 17 News the state fire marshal looking into this and does not know the cause or where it started. Right now, he says there is no indication there is foul play involved. Chief Dean Buffington tells us the building is a total loss. He says anytime there is this much destruction in this large of a building they will almost always call the fire marshal in to help.Investigators tell say there were a lot of challenges getting this fire out.”There was added fuel load because of the automotive stuff here as well as there was a lot of wood products in here,” Buffington explained. “There was quite a bit of wood stored in here in the woodshop as well as for the wood stove.”Buffington says the materials inside caused the fire to burn hotter and create more damage. The flames were so large and intense they were not able to get inside the building until they had it under control. But the tin roof caused the most problems for firefighters.”The metal tin came down and actually sheltered the stuff burning below, so for us to get the water into it we have to get that metal tin roofing off so we can get water in underneath it,” Buffington said.Investigators say the damages are estimated at $200,000. The building owner’s father tells us they aren’t planning on rebuilding the business right now.***UPDATE 9:44 A.M.***Fulton fire officials tell us the building is considered a total loss. Both Nelson’s Automotive and a separate wood shop were in flames when they arrived on scene.No one was there at the time of the fire and it’s currently under investigation.***ORIGINAL STORY***Fulton firefighters are on the scene of a business fire at Nelson’s Garage right now. The building is reported to be fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters called out for mutual aid shortly before 6:30 a.m. Monday, asking for a ladder truck from Columbia.
