Food Drive Kicks Off Wednesday

The number of people expected this year at a free Thanksgiving gathering in Columbia is increasing and now there is now a challenge to all Columbia residents to help feed those in need. Former councilwoman Almeta Crayton started her food collections on Wednesday in order to get enough food for the annual “Everybody Eats” food drive.During a food drive at Moser’s on the Business Loop, Crayton told ABC 17 News she hopes to have enough food to feed 1,000 people. Another annual Thanksgiving meal hosted by the Salvation Army has been canceled this year.Columbia professional firefighters donated 30 turkeys to kick off the event. They are still in need of more turkeys, hams, canned goods or monetary donations.
