Columbia Regional Eyes Expansion
Another airline could be on its way to the Columbia Regional Airport. Mayor Bob McDavid told ABC 17 News the city has had “some conversations” with Allegiant Airlines.Allegiant has air service to both Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Columbia City leaders have told our crews in the past they are in talks with Frontier to expand that airline’s service to Orlando by adding a third weekly flight.In order to keep expanding the local airport needs more money. The Cole County Commission is expected to vote on Monday to give about $100,000 to Columbia Regional Airport.Boone County has agreed to $500,000, Jefferson City and the city of Columbia are also chipping in. Mayor McDavid says the airport currently has about $600,000 in private donations.
