Boat Crash Trial Moves Forward

A Jefferson City man charged with killing two and injuring three in a boat crash appeared in a Gasconade County courtroom on Thursday.Christopher Winkler, 34, is accused of killing two people and injuring three others over the 2011 Labor Day weekend when his boat struck two anchored vessels at the Bonnots Mill river access in Osage County.In court, Winkler’s attorney filed a motion to suppress evidence obtained as a result of blood that was drawn. The judge listened to arguments from the defense and prosecution before taking the issue under advisement. It is not known when the judge will rule. Winkler’s trial date has not been set yet.Winkler is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of second degree assault with a vessel.Although the crash happened in Osage County, a jury ruled in January that the trial should be moved to Gasconade County.
