12/18: Storm Track Update
A strong storm system will move in from the west on Wednesday. The storm will likely track along or north of I-44, which means that the heaviest snowfall will be across central Kansas to far northwest Missouri and Iowa. Some of those areas could receive more than six inches of snow. In Mid-Missouri, our weather will start as rain Wednesday afternoon and evening. Up to a half-inch of rain will be possible with a few rumbles of thunder in areas of heavier rain. Colder air will move in early Thursday morning, changing rain to snow sometime likely between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Minor snow accumulations of up to a dusting are possible for areas mainly north of HWY 50 (near Jefferson City). Areas north of HWY 24 (near Moberly) could receive an inch or more. Much colder and windy weather will move in for Thursday with light snow showers. Temperatures will be steady near 30 degrees or in the upper 20s with northwest winds sustained around 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
