Police Respond to Multiple Shots

***UPDATE SATURDAY 7:43 P.M.*** A man who talked with ABC 17 News this afternoon told us he found a shell casing while he was walking to the store along E. High St. about a block east of Olive Street.ABC 17 News contacted Jefferson City Police to recover the shell casing, which is being held as evidence. The man, Joe Stevens, is considering moving away from that area because he has heard several shootings since he moved in six months ago. The gunshots were reported in different parts of the Eastside, leading police to believe the shooting came from moving vehicle(s). One woman who does not wish to be named said she fears for the safety of her children. She was in the living room of her home near Olive St. when she heard five gunshots and said they progressively got louder, that’s when she called police. Another woman, Amber Pickens, who lives near Olive St. said she is moving out at the end of the month because of the shootings. She woke up to two gunshots and went back to sleep because she said it was a common occurrence. ***ORIGINAL STORY***More gunplay was reported this weekend in Jefferson City.Police tell ABC 17 News they recovered pistol-caliber shell casings near the intersection of Olive Street and E. High Street early Saturday morning. No injuries have been reported and no suspects are wanted yet in the case.Calls started coming in around 4:45 a.m. from across town of shots fired. The first, from the 900 block of Moreau, where a caller reported a single shot and two cars driving away.At the same time, multiple callers at Olive and East McCarty reported several shots in that area.Just before 5 a.m., more shots fired calls came in. This time from McCarty and Eastland. Then minutes later, an officer on foot at the Olive Street call reported hearing several shots coming from the Renn’s Addition/Riverside Park area.Police searched all areas overnight and found no suspects or victims.These calls come amid increased reports of gun violence in the Capital City. Two days after Christmas, a man was killed in a shootout on Schroeder Way. Police say it was a drug deal turned robbery.On New Year’s Day, one man was shot in the face on Stadium Boulevard after an argument.
