One Injured After Shooting

***UPDATE FRIDAY 8:53 P.M.***Elonzo Johnson, Jr, 21, has been charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action. *** UPDATE 10:26 P.M. ***Neighbors told ABC 17 News crews the chaos started because family members of those involved in the shooting continued fighting.”Two ladies yelling at each other saying they are going kill you and stuff like that. And people ended up coming up dragging them away and one of the ladies ended up slapping the other,” said Sara Wells who lives next door to the commotion.When ABC 17 News asked if this fight had anything to do with the shooting earlier, Wells said “definitely yeah… they were talking about why would you do that to my son and stuff like that”Cole County Deputies quickly got to the scene after the shooting and the fight. If it wasn’t for them, neighbors said something worse would have happened.The Cole County Sheriffs Department arrested the gunman and the man who dragged the woman. Both were in the Cole County jail as of Thursday night.***UPDATE 5:25 P.M.***Cole County Sheriff’s deputies have been called back to the scene of the shooting because of fights in the area.***ORIGINAL STORY***The Cole County Sheriff confirmed one person was injured following a shooting on the west side of Jefferson City.According to Sheriff Greg White, two men got into an argument around 2:20 p.m. in the 5200 block of Collier Court in the Westview Heights subdivision.The sheriff says a physical fight started over a girl, which led to the shooting. One male pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the stomach. The victim drove himself to St. Mary’s Health Center before being flown to University Hospital. Sheriff White says he is in stable condition.Sheriff White says two shots were fired. One shot missed, while the second hit the victim. Authorities says one of the suspects got into a car when the female tried to stop him. The subject took off in the car, dragging the female.One suspect, the alleged shooter, is in custody on charges of first degree assault and armed criminal action.
