Officials Unveil New Road Plan

***UPDATE 7:28 P.M.***The commission says a one cent sales tax would raise nearly 8 billion dollars over 10 years.A billion would cover almost two thirds of a complete I-70 overhaul, including extra lanes.Officials want the proposal on the November 2014 ballot at the latest. It would then go into effect by the end of the year or January 2015, depending on how fast lawmakers work.***ORIGINAL STORY***Leaders announced a one-cent sales tax to pay for improvements on I-70. The funding proposal was unveiled Thursday by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.The Blue Ribbon Citizen’s Committee discussed their report on the state’s transportation needs, and officials heard from MoDot.The extra tax also covers projects on I-44.
